This fourth edition is special. A side from updates and the addition of new material, this RS Means book is now published by John Wiley & Sons.
RS Means was and continues to be the leading constructions timating database company; RS Means and Wiley, two great organizations, have both published the book, and both have been very successful in their own right. In addition to reviewing this book, RS Means provided me with the CD material that is a necessary component of this book. I have dealt with RS Means for 25 years and have nothing but high praise for them.
About the Book
This book provides information on how RS Means Building Construction Cost Data (BCCD) costs are created and presented. It also provides numerous sample questions that demonstrate how to apply this cost information. By following these guidelines, you can ”maximize” your use of the BCCD and take full advantage of the data’s capabilities to produce more accurate and detailed estimates.
Significant changes have been made in the fourth edition. Chapter 3,”Cost Estimating: An Introduction, “is a new chapter. This chapter is especially important for those who want to get an idea of construction cost estimating without having to read the entire book on construction cost estimating. A small section on contractor cash flow analysis (Appendix B) has been added and is supported by electronic files on the accompanying CD. More examples and exercises have been added; the CSI master format has been updated to the 2011edition, with some minor changes from the 2010 master format. Chapter 4, ”General Requirements, ”has been expanded and moved to the beginning of the book.
The book is now published by Wiley, an international leader in the publication of scientific and technical books, and RS Means is still involved in the book, especially in updating the material on the CD, including the totalization database and software.
