Managing the Building Design Process 2nd Edition- for free

Building Design

The title of this book is “Managing the Building Design Process “(from the original proposal called Creating New Buildings). A building or a single building is sometimes referred to as architecture or as having architectural value.

There is some debate among academics and professionals as to the criteria for distinguishing between a “building” and an “architectural” building. Originally, the architect was the chief architect or crafts man in the era when the designer and builder were one and the same person, and a building is a structure. The separation of the two roles in the19th century created a climate of conflict between the designer and builder that continues to some extent today.

About the Book

Creating a new building can be thought of as a process. In this process, different people use their various skills to share their opinions, organize and manage factors, and resolve contentious issues. This book introduces this process and the contributions that architectural designers can make.

The book summarizes the elements of building design, describes the relationship between the architectural designer and other members of the design and construction team, and develops ideas into proposals that are buildable and meet the needs of the building users.

In order to minimize the exclusivity associated with formal designer titles such as “architect” or “architectural engineer,” this book uses the general term architectural designer or simply designer. The principal architectural design bodies in the United Kingdom are the Architects Registration Board (ARB), the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), and the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT).
