About the Book
This book summarizes the elements of earthquake engineering, structural mechanics, concrete design, and foundation and geotechnical engineering that are essential to the seismic design of concrete buildings. It is not a technical book in these fields. Instead, it assumes that the reader is familiar with structural analysis, concrete design, and soil mechanics/foundation engineering, at least for the non-seismic case.
Starting from there, the book focuses on the applications and extensions of these disciplines, both specialized and general in practice, necessary for the seismic design of concrete buildings. Apart from these fundamentals, this book addresses only those areas that are necessary within the scope of this book.
This book presents and illustrates all the knowledge necessary for the seismic design of concrete buildings. The purpose of this book is to provide designers with a view to designing concrete buildings with all the tools necessary for such practice. The reader is not referred to other sources for essential information and tools, but only to supplementary knowledge.
